Tampo Printing Machines
Tampo printing, also known as pad printing, is a versatile printing method used to transfer ink from a silicone pad onto a variety of surfaces. It is commonly used for applying images, logos, and text onto irregularly shaped objects, such as toys, promotional products, electronic devices, and automotive parts.
The tampo printing process involves the following steps:
1. Artwork Preparation: The design or image to be printed is prepared using specialized graphic software. The artwork is typically separated into different colour layers, as each colour requires a separate printing step.
2. Plate Creation: A metal or polymer printing plate, known as a cliché, is created for each colour layer. The cliché contains the inverse of the desired design and is made through a photochemical etching process or by using laser engraving techniques.
3. Ink Preparation: The ink used in tampo printing is specially formulated to adhere to various surfaces and provide good coverage. The ink is selected based on the material being printed on and the desired results.
4. Ink Transfer: The ink is spread evenly on the surface of the cliché, and an excess amount is removed using a doctor blade or a similar mechanism. The ink remaining in the etched or engraved areas forms a thin film.
5. Pad Transfer: A silicone pad, which has the ability to deform and conform to different shapes, is pressed onto the cliché, picking up the ink film from the etched areas. The pad is then lifted away, carrying the ink with it.
6. Printing: The ink on the silicone pad is transferred onto the object to be printed, applying the design or image. The silicone pad conforms to the object's shape, allowing for precise and consistent printing on curved, uneven, or textured surfaces.
7. Curing and Finishing: The printed object is typically subjected to a curing process, which may involve heat, UV light, or air drying, depending on the type of ink used. This ensures the ink dries and adheres properly to the surface. After curing, any necessary post-printing finishing processes, such as inspection, packaging, or additional treatments, are carried out.
Tampo printing offers advantages such as the ability to print on various materials, including plastics, metals, glass, and ceramics, as well as the capability to achieve fine details and vibrant colours. It is a widely used printing method in industries requiring high-quality and durable decorations on complex-shaped objects.
